First off, I would like to publicly apologize to everyone for yesterday’s post. Why I thought Hugh Hefner would be a good topic for discussion is beyond me. It was by far my worst post yet. I am going to blame my lack of judgment on the fact that I hadn’t yet had enough coffee. And I hadn’t had much to eat either. So…yep, that explains it. And honestly…Ecarg?? Totally a fake. I looked it up and…Loveshack University doesn’t even EXIST!!!! But rest assured, a pointless post such as yesterday’s will never happen again.
For today I am well fed and my body is pumping with caffeine. I shall not let you down.
Now, let’s get right to it.
Many of us think that plopping our booties on the couch and watching an hour or so of broadcast news will magically turn us into well-informed people. Well NEWS FLASH (haha…it’s funny cause I’m talking about the news. haha…nvm): there is SO MUCH that the news doesn’t cover. You see, big news stations decide for us what is important and what is not (and they get a little swayed by the government. And when I say a little, I actually mean a lot). Here is an article that someone showed me listing 12 major events that occurred recently that have strangely been left out of mainstream media.
I highly encourage you to read through the whole article, but below are a few:
- “Most Americans are aware that the U.S. is involved in wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. However, the truth is that the U.S. military is also regularly bombing Yemen and parts of Pakistan. If you count the countries where the U.S. has special forces and/or covert operatives on the ground, the U.S. is probably “active” in more countries in the Middle East than it is not. Now there are even persistent rumors that U.S. ground units are being prepared to go into Libya. Are we watching the early stages of World War 3 unfold before our eyes in slow motion?”
- “Members of Congress continue to mention Christians as a threat to national security. For example, during a recent Congressional hearing U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee warned that “Christian militants” might try to “bring down the country” and that such groups need to be investigated”
- “All over the world, huge cracks are appearing for no discernible reason. For example, a massive crack that is approximately 3 kilometers long recent appeared in southern Peru. Also, a 500 foot long crack suddenly appeared recently in the state of Michigan. When you also throw in all of the gigantic sinkholes that have been opening all over the world, it is easy to conclude that the planet is becoming very unstable”
- “There are reports that North Korea has tested a “super EMP weapon” which would be capable of taking out most of the U.S. power grid in a single shot. The North Koreans are apparently about to conduct another nuclear test and that has some Obama administration officials very concerned”
So why aren’t these issues (and the 8 others) being reported in the mainstream media? I certainly don’t have the answer to that. But I do know it’s a problem. I think this proves the point that watching CNN or MSNBC or FOX is just not enough if we care at all about knowing what goes on in our own world. Knowledge is power. It’s cliche, but true. Dig deep into news sources that report on a broad range of topics and events, instead of relying on news outlets that report endlessly on the same things.
When CNN spent MONTHS covering Michael Jackson’s death, imagine how much was going on in the world during that time that we didn’t hear about. Don’t get me wrong…poor Mike deserved media attention. But NOT that much.
Take a look at this clip from the documentary “Peace, Propaganda, and the Promised Land”. It talks about how the US media paints Israel in a good light and Palestinians in a bad light because of the fact that Israel is our ally. It’s quite sad, actually, that we are getting such a skewed portrait of the conflict over there:
All this leaves me with the question, is the nature of mainstream media coverage a CAUSE of our ignorance or a RESULT of it (as in the media only reports what it thinks Americans want to hear)? What do you think?

And while North Korea is testing nuclear weapons and building EMP weapons, the UN is putting them in charge of the committee on disarmament.
Oy…
The sinkholes are actually news to me. I’ll go look for more information that now, thanks ^_^

Gosh, I knew all about those things you mentioned. If you had paid attention and watched FOX news, you would have heard all about it. Or, earth to Grace: how about actually reading something other than the funnies in the News Paper??? *gasp* Do you really believe we need to come to a silly little girl for our news?
You didn’t know the U.S. military was bombing Yemen & Pakistan? You have to be kidding me that you didn’t know about Libya! How about Syria. Did you know that? And did you further know that Obama is the one conducting these wars? And did you further know that he has, in complete disobedience to the Constitution, refused to get Congressional approval for his actions? And guess who is fighting him on these thing: Republicans. But just barely. The Dems are quiet as a mouse.
Anyone who doesn’t know about crazy Kim Jong Il of North Korea is just plain asleep, dear. We have known about him and his crazy nuclear weapons program for decades. Did you also know that the United States is FUNDING his nuke programs? Did you know that the crazy bastard is threatening to sell these warheads to Muslim Terrorists if we don’t give them more money? And where is Obama on any of this???? the silence is deafening.
And the piece about U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee warning about ‘Christian’ terrorists was met with extreme derision across the entire political spectrum.
As for the media portraying Israel in a good light, oh, please. Then why did Obama make his ‘pre-1967’ borders speech while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was on his plane heading to America for their State Meeting? Why did President Obama refuse to have his picture taken with him during their state visit? Why has Obama & the Media continued to blame Israel in the dispute and not on Hezbollah, who continues to fund terrorism? Why was the story about how an Israeli couple and their 3month old son who had their throats slit in the night by Palestinian terrorists not been covered more fully? Why is Israel furious with the United States & our media? Why is the U.S. – Israeli relationship at an ALL TIME low? And why, oh, why, is President Obama now meeting with Jewish lobby groups trying to ‘appease’ them after his latest policies concerning Israel?
Go on feeling sad for Palestinians. They would put your little head on a rock and allow all the vicious men to first rape you, then stone you to death. For simply driving a car, not wearing a head scarf, showing your hair & face and for sleeping with men. Oh, yeah, you’ve picked the right side, sister.
Did it ever occur to you, Grace, that you are watching only one news outlet (do you even know what a Progressive is and what they are up to?)- when you watch at all. Even CNN covers most of these things. You, like your juvenile college friends, are ASLEEP. Wake up! You are old enough to get involved. Educate yourself better. Don’t be COOL. Be RIGHT.

Are you mentally incapable of not being a jerk when posting? Is that a psychological ailment, like blogging tourettes or something?
First of all, she didn’t say she was unaware of these events. In fact, she clearly is aware of them because she researched them to post. She is trying to make the information available to others and educating them about a need to dig for the real stories.
That’s the last time I’m responding to anything you type, just so you know. It’s not because you won, it’s because I have common sense and know when to stop poking the crazy person.

Thank you for saying all this. It’s exactly how I feel. It’s tiresome to respond to this woman. I remember you saying that you are conservative. Well, for the record…you are one conservative that I like 🙂

Why thank you 😀
The thing is, just because we may not agree on everything politically doesn’t mean we can’t get along or have polite discussions and debates about politics and other topics.
Though I warn you, my writing style is permanently stuck in “snark” mode. I can’t help it, sarcasm is a survival skill…thus the name of my blog. If I say something that sounds rude, I probably didn’t mean it that way.
Grace
July 1, 2011
Haha no worries, I am sarcastic too! And you’re absolutely right, just because we disagree on certain issues does NOT mean we can’t have polite discussion! And to be clear, you have every right to have the views you do. Just because I disagree it does not mean I think you are a “bad” person. Two people can be the best of friends but still disagree! I wish people would understand that more instead of being so harsh to each other. It’s not necessary!

Grace, you are just too young to get tired so much. You haven’t responded at all! How could you be tired?
You like to thow ill informed ideas out there to feel important and when someone confronts you, you are always too TIRED to respond.
You are an intellectual coward.

More name calling, Meredith? She said she only JUST became aware of things that have been happening for YEARS. Yes, she said that. And it’s pitiful.
Me pointing that out makes it clear that Grace is ignorant- in the truest sense of the word. She also claims that people actually need to come to her silly, ignorant blog to ‘learn’ about politics.
I just can’t take her or you seriously.
If little girls want to make big claims, they had better be able to defend them.
Grace
July 5, 2011
Did I ever say that I JUST became aware of those things? Nope! Never said that. Read more carefully, please. My point was that those things aren’t reported on MAINSTREAM news stations, so the majority isn’t aware of those things (since the majority relies on mainstream networks).
Also, I never said you NEED to come to my blog. The title “Things you may never know (unless you read this post)” implies that you MIGHT never know these things…but you WILL if you read my post. So, you misread again.
I know you don’t take me seriously. You’ve made that crystal clear.

The person who can not defend their position (especially without the entirety of their argument being name-calling) does indeed lose the debate.

You’re having an argument on the blog of a college student. I think you’ve already lost…

July 2, 2011
Andrew, your statement implies that college students are somehow losers, or that they are incapable of higher levels of debate. I’m not sure who is more insulting to these kids- you or me.
These kids need to think beyond the garbage that is taught at liberal colleges. My posts at least cause them to think about what they say.
Believe it or not, I do this because I care. There needs to be another point of view represented to these kids. They sure don’t get it at school.
If they are left without debate, then they will simply be fodder for the progressive liberal machine.
Andrew DeCoster
July 5, 2011
Short little rebel, you make the mistake of assuming that your viewpoint would be considered as fair and balanced by a demographic that is increasingly intolerable of “traditional” conservative ideas.
While you may loathe the idea of an American society marked by such dramatic change and populated by individuals fed on the “garbage” of liberal progressive colleges, that is the direction that this generation is taking. The beautiful thing about our country is that it is run by the people. Do not isolate the changing trends in America from the corresponding social trends of young adults who will, in twenty years, represent the majority of workers and voters in America.
Grace
July 5, 2011
And rest assured short little rebel, we certainly don’t need YOU to get other points of view. We seek out other views ourselves. And we go to credible sources. I would never believe everything that you say without checking your facts.
It’s funny how several conservatives on this blog have said that what I say is “garbage” that I learned from a liberal college. That is quite the generalization there. Have you sat in on every class at every college in America? My guess is no. I’ve had my share of liberal professors and my share of conservative professors. I take in everything I hear, I do my own research, and form my own opinions. Accusing me of being “brainwashed” is an easy way for you to dismiss everything I say. I would say THAT is being cowardly.
And Andrew is absolutely right. This progressive liberal machine you refer to is gaining strength. Not because everyone is brainwashed, lacks experience, what have you…but because young people are becoming aggravated by the status quo and trying to push change in America. I know you don’t like that, and you can speak out against it as you please. But it’s the reality and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. It’s how society works.
Sam

Conservatives also have the tendency to say we are coddled and don’t understand life. I’ve noticed this. They get backed into a corner and go “YOU JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND THE STRESS OF REAL LIFE.” Funny…. I know a lot of adults who live “real lives” and who are also liberal. Idealism doesn’t have to die when we leave school and have families. Nor do we necessarily have no experience with “real life” before we have our own families. Life can be hard when you are young, and the government still affects you when you’re young.

Andrew. Just because the left is RABID and has a big mouth doesn’t mean that is representative of this country. All statistics show that most of America is still center RIGHT. Including college students. By universities, I mean to say- Professors. The ones teaching. Not the ones attending. The attempt is being made to CHANGE old time values. But guess what? Here is the push back. I have already had people to my blog from Grace’s blog. And guess what? They don’t agree with her. Big Mouths don’t = Majority.

ANDREW: why did you insult college students by implying that by talking to college students and debating points with them I must have lowered myself somehow? The implication is that they are either stupid or too young to debate with.
Why did you say that? Let’s see you answer that, Mr. Cowardly.

Sam. What corner have I been backed into? I know you don’t like to back your comments. But this time, could you please? Exactly what corner have you masterfully backed me into?
All I see here is people ignoring my points. They are too ‘tired’ or too ‘busy’ to prove their points. And trying to attack either me, my religion (though I’ve never brought it up) or… what, exactly?
Grace likes to make points, but not explain herself. Nor will she answer my points. That is WEAK. THAT is what I am showing to your readers. People are not stupid. They can see that I do always prove my assertions. Especially if anyone asks me to. They can also see that I don’t make big assertions to begin with (like soldiers are murderers). I ask questions. I ask for proof. And you run away, yelling at me- telling me you don’t like me. But proof? fully absent.
YOU will never be convinced. but your readers see your cowardliness and learn from it. You think every reader comments? You would be wrong.
